Global gets ready to celebrate a milestone

Global Knives turns 30 years old in 2015, and the celebrations are already gearing up!

Created in 1985 by Komin Yamada in Japan, the Global knife was revolutionary in its style and build – no other knife had a fully forged stainless steel handle, and the sharpness of the blade was above and beyond anything else on the market at that time. In the intervening 30 years many other brands have mimicked the style and tried to match Global for their performance, but they are still the only knife brand to have won the Which? best knife award twice.

Instantly recognisable by the ergonomic design and the black dotted handles, Global knives have become a must-have item for any professional chef. David Grunwerg, co-director of I Grunwerg Ltd said ‘It is rare to have a product that have survived more or less intact and untouched in terms of style and design for three decades - the longevity and popularity of the Global brand has elevated it to iconic status’.

Grunwerg have a series of events and competitions planned to mark the anniversary from now up until the end of 2015, including the launch of special anniversary branded knives and sets. Two of the sets are tailored specifically for chefs and caterers, and are designed to appeal to the very people who have helped to make Global Knives such a success.

Sophie Newton, brand manager for Global at I Grunwerg has said "It's exciting to be a part of such a milestone for Global, and we're proud to be able to join with other distributors around the world in celebrating such a fantastic achievement. We've got a great programme of events and competitions lined up between now and the end of 2015, so watch this space!"
