‘Healthy’ portion of fresh fruit and veg donated to Sussex foodbank service

A leading catering business has done its bit for the environment by supporting a Sussex food bank with a ‘healthy’ donation of left-over food.

Caterers Seasoned donated fresh fruit and vegetables as well as perishable cakes left over from a recent conference that it provided catering for to FareShare Sussex, a food collection and distribution service.

Established in 2002 by City Gate Community Projects, FareShare Sussex collected the surplus food from Seasoned, which would otherwise be wasted and delivered it to those most in need across Sussex and parts of Surrey.

Seasoned Managing Partner Venues, Graham Turner, added: “Every year, 3.6 million tonnes of useable food is wasted by the UK food industry, yet at the same time, millions of people are struggling to afford to it.

“Our talented team work hard to create events for our clients and we are only too delighted to know that any left-over good food is not going to waste.”

FareShare provides food to charities and groups that deliver services in addition to meals, such as advice and guidance, health support, counselling and befriending, to help break the cycle of poverty and use food as a vehicle for good above and beyond alleviating hunger.

Graham added: “FareShare’s team of volunteers is doing a fantastic job. They take the food off our hands and distribute it to where it’s needed most – for us this is a satisfying hassle-free alternative to the waste bin and we are delighted to support their much-needed service at every opportunity.”

Anna Wheddon of FareShare Sussex said: “We would like to thank Seasoned for their generous donation. We are so pleased that they contacted us so that we could help avoid left over food going to waste by delivering it to local charities.”

Seasoned is part of the Crown Partnership, a portfolio of events, hospitality and catering providers, committed to environmental sustainability with an emphasis on innovation and an appetite for success.
