Join Paul Foster’s Chefs’ Football Tournament for Farm Africa

A final call to restaurants, catering suppliers, cookery schools and all from the UK hospitality industry to sign up a team and take part in the upcoming Chefs’ Football tournament on Sunday 10 July in Birmingham! ⚽

Find out more at www.farmafrica.org/chefs-football or contact Paul Foster on Twitter via @PaulFosterChef.

Registered teams so far include Michelin starred restaurants Heaney’s Cardiff, Lovage and The Man Behind The Curtain. Although united in their mission to raise funds for Farm Africa, fierce competition can be expected amongst teams and with last tournament’s winners, A.M. Bailey, not participating the competition is wide open!

Last week we had a quick catch up with Chef Paul Foster, the founder of Chefs’ Football. Read on to find out what he has to say:

Q: What are you most looking forward to about Chefs’ Football?

A: It's a great opportunity to catch up with other people in the industry that I don't get to see often, and also a good way to meet new people in the industry.

Q: Why have you chosen to support Farm Africa?

A: I have supported Farm Africa since 2012 after I cooked a charity dinner with some other chefs at Sainsbury’s HQ in London. This led to a Kilimanjaro climb and a visit to some of the villages that Farm Africa support. I was so inspired by this experience that I wanted to keep a strong relationship with them.

Q: If you could sum up your team’s football skills as a dish in your restaurant, what would it be and why?

A: We have a great team spirit but that unfortunately is not backed up by skills. I would say we have all the components of a great dish like a tournedos rossini but lack the execution, so it's great quality beef but it’s slightly over cooked, and the sauce is under reduced!

Q: Do you have a message for your supporters?

A: Give as much as you can for the football, whether it’s prizes, support or money.

Q: What food fuels your footie training?

A: Generally, beer, or the thought of beer after the match.

All donations raised at the tournament will go towards Farm Africa, a charity that supports farmers in eastern Africa with the training and tools they need to lift themselves out of poverty. Small Contribution. Big Impact.

The Staff Canteen has always been more than a website—it’s a community, built by and for hospitality. We share the wins, the challenges, the graft, and the inspiration that keeps kitchens alive.

We believe in staying open to everyone, but creating this content takes real resources. If you’ve ever found value here—whether it’s a recipe, an interview, or a laugh when you needed it most—consider giving just £3 to keep it going.

A little from you keeps this space free for all. Let’s keep lifting the industry, together.
