Major International together with TUCO is to provide a competition that enables Chefs to showcase their culinary skills, expertise and knowledge to deliver a 3 course meal for 2 covers. Each competitor will be asked to design and submit a menu for consideration incorporating Major products intended to be served to students in their restaurants. Ten finalists will be chosen from the entries to proceed to the final cook off on Monday 18 March at Blackpool and Fylde College. Each finalist will then battle it out in a bid to become TUCO/Major Chef of The Year 2013.
Chairman of judges for the TUCO competition this year will be Simon Hulstone, the award winning Head Chef at the Elephant, Torquay. Simon has been competing (and winning) competitions around the world since the age of 16, representing his country on many occasions. Having worked with some of Britains top chefs, Simons experience has resulted in him being awarded 3 AA rosettes in his career and his team won Torquay its first Michelin star, which it maintains today.
The judging panel at TUCO will be looking for presentation, flavour, taste, temperature, culinary skills, portion size, overall menu balance and timings.
“We believe that it is crucial to provide an opportunity for people to enhance and acquire further skills to allow progression and have a platform to move on from. Major use the finest ingredients to deliver exceptional flavours with an authentic taste and aroma so I am really excited to see what menu choices are developed for the TUCO final this year.” comments Brian Eastment, Executive Development Chef of Major International.
Major have put together a range of fantastic prizes including one weeks’ working stage with top renowned Great British Chef, Simon Hulstone at the Elephant Restaurant, Torquay who will provide a personalised experience for the individual taking into account their needs. Alongside this sought after prize, Major will also provide vouchers to spend at Russums, one year's free membership to the BCF, coupled with the overall winners college receiving a further £200 in vouchers.
“The competition has been structured to encourage and develop competitors confidence in competitions enabling them to enter others in the future. We would like to thank Simon for offering both this fantastic prize of mentoring the winner of the competition and for also offering to be the Chairman of Judges. We wish everybody who enters the best of luck.” explains David Bryant, Managing Director of Major International
