South West Chef of the Year 2014 launched!

South West Chef of the Year 2014 was launched in style at the Source Taste of the West Food and Drink Trade Show at Westpoint, Exeter on 5th February when overall winner in 2013, Nathan Cornwell, demonstrated two of his winning dishes to visitors to the show.

Nathan presented a beautiful plate of roast loin of venison, squash purée, Savoy greens, red wine shallots and cherries, that replicated the delicious dish created by Nathan in the final of the competition in 2013, when he and his fellow finalists were presented with a mystery box of ingredients just 30 minutes before the competition began!

Nathan was joined by the 2013 winner of the South West’s Best Dish class, for home cooks, Steve Ashworth, who presented Nathan’s demonstration and provided details of the 2014 competition to visitors.

Nathan, who is chef de partie at the Michelin-starred Lucknam Park near Bath, also re-created one of two dishes that saw him safely through to the finals of the competition, pan-fried Hake, Scallop and fennel mousse, mussels and a mussel nage under the watchful eye of Executive Chef at Lucknam Park, Hywel Jones, who accompanied him to the show.

South West Chef of the Year 2014 is once again open to professional and amateur chefs alike, offering two classes for professional chefs (senior and junior), one class for junior chefs (under 16 years of age) and another class for home cooks, for which keen amateur chefs are asked to enter a favourite main course dish.

A highly-respected panel of judges, made up of some of the South West’s finest chefs, will once again be searching for talented and creative chefs and home cooks and waiting to bestow the prestigious title of “South West Chef of the Year 2014” on a dedicated and deserving candidate.  The judges are:
