South West Chef of the Year celebrates 10th anniversary

The South West Chef of the Year competition is staged by Michael Caines MBE and Taste of the West and has been recognising the best up and coming professional chefs and home cooks in the South West for ten years.
The competition has grown significantly over time but it remains true to its roots - in recognising and promoting the skills and creativity that are prevalent within the hospitality and catering industry in the South West and putting this dynamic region firmly on the culinary map!
Our original line up of judges remains a vital part of our growing judging panel.  The original team of Michael Caines, Peter Gorton, Chris and James Tanner and Darrin Hosegrove has more recently been joined by yet more esteemed regional chefs including Nathan Outlaw, Paul Ainsworth, Simon Hulstone, Ian Webber, Neil Haydock, Hywel Jones, Mark Hix, Rob Rees MBE and Matt Mason.
To mark our 10th anniversary, we have launched a new class for the budding young chefs of the future.  Our Junior class for 11-16 year olds will be judged initially in semi-finals in each of the six counties of the South West.  Further top chefs have joined our panel to help judge these heats including Scott Paton, Russel Brown, Matt Budden, Jonray and Peter Sanchez, Sam Moody, Richard Davies, David Everitt-Matthias and Jamie Raftery.
The semi-finals of the junior class will be held during September and all our finals will be staged in October, culminating in our awards presentation dinner on the evening of Monday 28th October, when the winners of each class and a number of additional awards will be announced.  Tickets will be available for purchase shortly.
For more information about the competition visit our website at www.southwestchef.co.uk.  Entries are being taken online at this website until 30th August (12th September for the Junior class).  You can also follow us on Twitter for regular updates @SWChefComp.
