Craig Johnston is the winner of MasterChef: The Professionals 2017.

Craig, sous chef at the Royal Oak Paley Street was the eleventh winner of MasterChef: The Professionals. With the title, Craig joins a long list of previous winners which include Derek Johnstone; Steve Groves; Claire Lara; Ash Mair, joint winners Keri Moss and Anton PiotrowskiSteven Edwards; Jamie ScottMark Stinchcombe and 2016 winner Gary Maclean.

Taking on 47 other professional chefs, Craig battled through seven weeks of fierce competition and extraordinary cooking in the culinary challenges. He was crowned the winner by two Michelin-starred chef Marcus Wareing, renowned chef Monica Galetti and MasterChef’s seasoned judge Gregg Wallace.

Who were the MasterChef: The Professionals 2017 finalists?

Finals week saw Craig compete against fellow competitors, Louisa Ellis; Steven Lickley and Jamie Park, head chef at Adam Handling's restaurant, The Frog in Covent Garden.

His challenges included creating and delivering a Michelin-standard dish for 23 gastronomical giants from around the world with the others in the Final Four; and, as part of the Final Three, travelling to the South of France to learn in the two Michelin-starred kitchens of the fourth best restaurant in the world - Mirazur - from Argentinian chef Mauro Colagreco.

The final task was to create a three-course meal for judges Marcus Wareing, Monica Galetti and Gregg Wallace in three hours. Craig's winning menu consisted of mackerel two ways with beetroot and dill iced granita to start; roast squab pigeon with thyme-infused pommes Anna for main; and yoghurt mousse with a basil marshmallow, frozen lemon cells and verbena frozen yoghurt rocks for dessert.
