Shay Cooper to return to The Vineyard for one night only as part of 'Back to the Vine'

The Vineyard is celebrating its 20 year anniversary, and to mark this milestone they have created a culinary festival to celebrate the great talents who have been through their kitchen.

From Monday 25th June to Sunday 1st July, seven fantastic Michelin starred chefs who have previously worked at The Vineyard will be showcasing their culinary excellence which will include:

Shay Cooper, Nathan Outlaw, Matt Gillan, Richard Davies, John Campbell, Daniel Galmiche and Billy Reid.

Why did you want to get involved with Back to the Vine?

I really enjoyed my time working at The Vineyard as a young chef, so to be invited back to cook there as guest chef felt like a real privilege.

Tell me about working at the Vineyard, what was it like?

It was a highly pressured, ambitious young kitchen and my first experience of working in a hotel kitchen as opposed to a restaurant. Working there taught me an awful lot about managing large volumes of business but with an emphasis on quality across the board.

What are your favourite memories from working at The Vineyard?

Just working with a great team of chefs who were all starting out on their own journeys, many of whom have become lifetime friends.

What are you most looking forward to?

Getting to see how much it has evolved over the 15 years that have passed since I worked there.

How will you decide what to cook?

We just wanted to showcase the food style we do at The Goring but present it in a different light.

What do you enjoy most about these collaborations?

It’s always interesting to collaborate with different chefs and teams in different environments, it’s also great for members of my team to join in and get to experience different kitchens and food styles.

Back to the Vine eludes to having an ‘interactive dining experience’ – can you tell me a bit more this please?

I believe certain tables will be invited into the kitchen to help produce certain elements of the meal.
