Chefs combine for British Tomato Week 2015

The Staff Canteen
In celebration of British Tomato Week starting on Monday 18th May, chefs Ben Tish (Ember Yard), Jose Pizarro (Pizarro) and Scott Hallsworth (Joe’s Oriental) have teamed up with Isle of Wight producers, The Tomato Stall to create a special tomato based dish to be served on their menus next week. They have also got truly into the spirit this week by taking part in a big tomato fight to illustrate the campaign which you can see above.british-tomato-week The campaign will celebrate the amazing produce we can offer here in the UK. Due to the Isle of Wight’s unique microclimate, The
Tomato Stall is able to produce incredibly sweet tomatoes that chefs would usually source from abroad. The dishes the chefs are to be serving are:
  • Burrata with chargrilled ciabatta - by Ben Tish for Ember Yard
  • Thai Pork Salad - by Scott Hallsworth for Joe’s Oriental
  • Tomates en texturas with anchovies and crispy capers - By Jose Pizarro for Pizarro
Launched by the British Tomato Growers Association, this association of tomato growers emphasise that they grow tomatoes naturally in a way that protects the environment and promotes good health to the public.
Small Contribution. Big Impact.

The Staff Canteen has always been more than a website—it’s a community, built by and for hospitality. We share the wins, the challenges, the graft, and the inspiration that keeps kitchens alive.

We believe in staying open to everyone, but creating this content takes real resources. If you’ve ever found value here—whether it’s a recipe, an interview, or a laugh when you needed it most—consider giving just £3 to keep it going.

A little from you keeps this space free for all. Let’s keep lifting the industry, together.
