Food prices to rise faster than salaries until 2018: Fresh produce could become a rare treat for poorer families

Food prices are predicted to rise faster than incomes every year until 2018, with meat and fresh fruit and vegetables becoming only an occasional treat for some.  The cost of putting food on the table is forecast to rise by 3.8 per cent next year and still further in 2015, according to industry experts.  They also say the cost of eating out in restaurants and pubs has increased by seven per cent in the past six months. UK chef creates world's most expensive ready meal - a fish pie costing £314

While the UK faced a food poverty “public health emergency”, a ready meal company in west London has brought out what it says is the world’s most expensive TV dinner.  Made with vintage champagne, edible gold leaf and “topped” with a pair of lobster tails, the Swish Pie by Charlie Bigham will set you back £314.16. Boom Burger to open first permanent site

A pop-up burger business that offers Jamaican-influenced burgers is set to open its first permanent site.  Chef Josh de Lisser, who previously ran Boom Burger at temporary sites at the Earl of Portobello in Westbourne Grove, and the Doll's House on Hoxton Square, will open a permanent restaurant by the same name at 272 Portobello Road.
