Executive chef Guy Owen has announced his departure from St Enodoc Hotel after five years.

The boutique property, which overlooks the picturesque Camel Estuary, comprises 21 rooms, a restaurant and beauty rooms.

Although originally from Hampshire, he moved to South East Cornwall at the age of eight and throughout his school years helped in the kitchens of local restaurants after lessons and at weekends.

Guy joined St Enodoc in January 2020 and prior to this he spent four-and-a-half years as head chef of the Idle Rocks

He has worked in Michelin-starred restaurants including The Driftwood with Chris Eden and under Michael Caines at Gidleigh Park.

His culinary style celebrates the Cornish coast’s finest produce, is refined, imaginative cuisine with French and Asian influences.

A post on social media read: “Farewell St Enodoc. Thank you to everyone who's been a part of this journey with me, old and present. Best of luck to all who journey on in the hotels new chapter under the Ainsworth collection.

“Thank you to Paul Ainsworth, Emma Ainsworth, Paul Dodd, Chelsea Roper, John Walton and all in the collection for your kindest and welcome in my short tender with you, and so many well wishes.

“Good luck to

Tom Browning, Matthew Durnin, Nate and  the kitchen team. You'll smash it, I believe in you.

“Onto the next chapter. I'll be back, but with bells on. Keep fighting the good fight everyone.”

The only hotel in Rock, The St Enodoc offers the perfect escape within walking distance to some of the country’s best beaches including Daymer Bay.

The news comes just a few months after it was announced that Paul and Emma Ainsworth acquired the prestigious hotel.

Paul said: “Emma and I have long admired The St Enodoc and are absolutely delighted to become its new owners and custodians.

“This landmark hotel is set in a stunning location right on our doorstep. We are excited to welcome this wonderful hotel to The Ainsworth Collection and further build on its legacy.

“We have no immediate plans to change the style of the hotel - our priority is ensuring a seamless employment transition for the St Enodoc team while welcoming them to the Ainsworth Collection family, to get to know our new business, and to create a warm welcome for guests.

“We can’t wait to start our journey with this lovely hotel and commence the next chapter in St Enodoc’s story.”
