Ivan Tisdall-Downes resigns from Native weeks after Michelin green star

Ivan Tisdall-Downes has announced he is resigning from Native, just weeks after being awarded a Michelin green star.

He is the co-founder alongside Imogen Davis and head chef of Native, a restaurant that emphasises sustainable and zero-waste cooking.

Ivan is known for his dedication to sustainability through his innovative approach to using wild and foraged ingredients.

In 2020, Ivan represented London and the South East on the BBC’s Great British Menu, where he highlighted the adventurous side of wild food.

He said: “From Covent Garden to Borough

Market, Osea Island and Mayfair, and finally the abundant Netherwood Estate. A humble street food stall started in 2012, Native has grown into a Michelin awarded brand that’s allowed me to travel the world and cook with some of my heroes.

“It is therefore with a heavy heart that I have resigned from my position as Executive Chef of Native under its current guardians Hestia Ltd. I wish Hestia all the best, and can’t wait to follow their next adventures.”

The Staff Canteen has contacted Ivan for comment.

Small Contribution. Big Impact.

The Staff Canteen has always been more than a website—it’s a community, built by and for hospitality. We share the wins, the challenges, the graft, and the inspiration that keeps kitchens alive.

We believe in staying open to everyone, but creating this content takes real resources. If you’ve ever found value here—whether it’s a recipe, an interview, or a laugh when you needed it most—consider giving just £3 to keep it going.

A little from you keeps this space free for all. Let’s keep lifting the industry, together.
