Chef Yannick Alléno’s Le 1947 at the Cheval Blanc hotel in Courchevel in the French Alps is awarded 3 stars in the Michelin Guide France 2017.

Le 1947 is the latest addition to the three star category which also includes Yannick's other restaurant, Pavillon Ledoyen in Paris which retained its coveted 3 stars this year.

Commenting on the award, Michael Ellis, International Director of the MICHELIN guides said: “At 1947, chef Yannick Alleno and his team give us a true lesson in fine cooking and a memorable experience that is undoubtedly worth the trip and which will appeal to the palate of the world’s most discerning gourmet diners. What he has accomplished with sauces, which is the result of much research on extraction and fermentation, combined with his perfect handling of techniques and blending of flavours provide us with truly emotional cuisine that showcases the richness of the Savoy Alps, since the chef uses local products like Arctic char, Crozet square pasta, the féra, a fish that is native to Alpine lakes, and mountain herbs.”

All 3 star establishments retained the rating this year which means there are 27 restaurants in France in total holding Michelin's highest rating.

A total of 12 restaurants recieved 2 stars for the first time, including Gordon Ramsay's Le Pressoir d'Argent in Bordeaux, La Maison des Bois in Manigod and Paris's Restaurant Kei. Alexandre Gauthier's La Grenouillère in La Madelaine-sous-Montreui was also awarded a second star.

Joining the one star category is a whopping 57 restaurants including La Liegoise in Wimereux, the Haut Bonheur de la Table in Cassel, the W in Annonay and Le Hiltau in the Landes region.

France now has 616 Michelin-starred restaurants, an increase of 16 from 2016. This year a total of 70 new stars were awarded.

The 2017 MICHELIN guide France will be available in all sales outlets on February 15 and priced at €24.90. The selection will also be featured – and restaurants can be booked – on MICHELIN Restaurants and ViaMichelin web-based and mobile media.
