The Ritz on top at National Restaurant Awards 2025

The Staff Canteen

Fresh off winning its second Michelin star, The Ritz in London has been named the UK’s best restaurant at the National Restaurant Awards 2025.

Announced at a ceremony at Magazine in London Docklands, The Ritz, led by chef John Williams MBE, climbed to top spot for the first time.

John joined The Ritz in 2004, with their fine dining restaurant earlier this year awarded a second Michelin star, ensuring 2025 is a memorable year for the iconic London hotel.

In second place was Mark Birchall’s Moor Hall in west Lancashire, which won a third Michelin star this year.

Moor Hall also holds a Michelin green star, as it continues to champion sustainability at the 16th century country house.

Mark also took home this year’s coveted Chef of the Year award.

Restaurateur of the Year 2025 was David Carter. He had two restaurants on this year’s Top 100 list, in highest new entry, OMA, which makes its debut at an impressive sixth place having got a Michelin star this year, and AGORA at number 51.

Claude Bosi’s Bibendum (39) re-enters the list in 2025, making him the only restaurateur with three restaurants within the top 100 - Brooklands by Claude Bosi coming in at 20 and Josephine Bouchon (Chelsea), co-owned by Lucy Bosi, at 23.

After the shock announcement of Lyle’s last service in May, James Lowe’s restaurant climbs 55 places on the list, coming in at 21 this year.

Spring’s Aussie culinary director Skye Gyngell took home the Lifetime Achievement Award, recognising her contribution not just to the British culinary scene but also her work tapping into the confluence of food and culture, all the while overcoming a battle with rare skin cancer.

This year’s list shows the continuation of the capital’s dominance in the restaurant scene, with a total of 56 restaurants from London in the Top 100 list.
