The Ritz London has been awarded the Gold certification from Green Tourism, an award which demonstrates an independent evaluation of a variety of businesses, enabling tourists to make an informed decision on the most sustainable destinations.Ritz Kitchen Opening 1 The restaurant, located in the heart of London’s West End, was analysed over ten criteria including waste minimising, social responsibility, energy saving and innovation. After almost 110 years of operation, The Ritz London has always taken the conservation of the Grade II listed building into consideration alongside their ongoing care for the environment. The team at The Ritz actively work to reduce the hotel’s carbon footprint during day to day activities, in order to reduce any environmentally damaging effects where possible. For example, their new kitchen uses induction heat instead of gas, and most of the cooking is done on planchas to minimise the need for excessive fat and oils, therefore reducing the need of repeated washing up. Paul Winfield-Brown, Maintenance Manager at The Ritz London said; “We are delighted that our efforts to operate in a sustainable way have been recognised by Green Tourism with the Gold Award. As an iconic London landmark we recognise and are committed to contributing to promoting a greener future”.Ritz Exterior MAIN After teaming with the Sustainable Restaurant Association, The Ritz London have pledged to only source from local market places, utilising the freshest foods from every season – also known as the farm to fork initiative. Also, CleanConscience, a company which aims to reduce the amount of landfill waste sent from hotels and restaurants, began their journey with The Ritz London by collecting half used soaps and other guest products to sterilise and redistribute globally to people suffering from life threatening illnesses which could have been preventable from the process of using soap.
