As we head into Autumn, the change of season has made for some exciting new menus. We love seeing your dishes and recipes on our Chef Plus app - so much so that we share the very best ones on our social media!
Here’s some members that have caught our eye with their content this month:
The most read article on The Staff Canteen this month was the news that the Michelin-starred restaurant The Cross at Kenilworth had been fined over £25,000 after an apprentice chef suffered a severe scalding. The 18-year-old chef was cleaning an extractor fan when his foot slipped into a fryer full of hot fat. He sustained serious injuries as a result of the accident and the pub pleaded guilty in court.
As the seasons change, there's a bounty of new Autumn ingredients coming in this month including plums, marrow and autumn lamb. Make sure you upload your seasonal recipes and images to the Chef+ app, and we'll share the best ones on our social media channels.
Our Chef Plus Member of the Month for August is Filip Poon. Filip is sous chef at the newly opened Restaurant NOI in Stockholm, Sweden. He loves inspiring people with his colourful, creative plates and posts a lot of them on his Instagram account (@filipp8n)
For his prizes, Filip won a copy of At Home: Easy to Cook Recipes fromNigel Haworthand friends and The Staff Canteen 10th Anniversary mug.

Small Contribution. Big Impact.
The Staff Canteen has always been more than a website—it’s a community, built by and for hospitality. We share the wins, the challenges, the graft, and the inspiration that keeps kitchens alive.
We believe in staying open to everyone, but creating this content takes real resources. If you’ve ever found value here—whether it’s a recipe, an interview, or a laugh when you needed it most—consider giving just £3 to keep it going.
A little from you keeps this space free for all. Let’s keep lifting the industry, together.
