Aviko Serves Up Solutions at At The LACA Main Event

Aviko will be showcasing its range of gluten-free and FSA salt compliant options for school caterers at The LACA Main Event (8th – 10th July 2015, Hilton Birmingham Metropole).

The potato products supplier will be on stand P33 to show caterers how they can support schools with healthier options at all times of the day, that not only appeal to pupils and taste great, but also remain within ever tightening budgets.

Mohammed Essa, General Manager UK and Ireland, Aviko comments: “We’re looking forward to sharing our passion for potatoes with as many school caterers as we can during The Main Event. We work hard to ensure our products meet school food guidelines, reducing salt levels and providing caterers with safer menu options. Evidence suggests that the eating habits in childhood, influence those in later life so it’s vital that we work together and make sure pupils get the best start they can.”

Aviko has removed 18 tonnes of salt across its range of frozen and chilled potato products since 2009 – including staples such as Roast Potatoes, Mash and Herb Dice Potatoes – and with products such as Aviko’s Premium Fries containing no added salt at all, it’s never been easier for school caterers to cut sodium chloride from dishes. Popular options such as Sweet Potato Fries and Garlic & Herb Wedges meet or fall well under FSA guidelines on salt levels, making them especially ideal for school menus and with hash browns coming top three in the nation’s favourite breakfast items*, Aviko’s FSA compliant Hash Brown Bites are the ideal solution for caterers responsible for school breakfast clubs, providing pupils with filling and nutritious meals to set them up for the academic day ahead.

Aviko’s Hash Brown Bites are also gluten-free, providing a solution for the 28% of people that want to see more gluten-free options for young people^ - particularly important given that the number of children diagnosed with coeliac disease in the UK has almost tripled over the last 20 years**.

Mohammed continues: “School caterers can have peace of mind that our most popular products – including our Premium Fries range – are produced in a dedicated gluten-free factory, offering an easy way to meet the increased demand for coeliac friendly dishes – something not all potato product suppliers can guarantee.

We know that dealing for special diets and meeting school guidelines can be a daunting prospect for many caterers which is why we’ve made it easier by introducing a new filter on our website enabling them to search specifically for products that meet FSA salt targets and those that are gluten-free. This is just one of the ways in which we’re taking the hassle out of menu planning for school caterers – come over to stand P33 to discover even more!”

Aviko’s range of potato products are not only extremely adaptable, allowing school caterers to keep menus fresh and ensuring pupils don’t get bored with their lunches, but they are also quick and easy to prepare, require no specialist skills, and allow caterers to control portion sizes and reduce wastage at a stroke. The products can also be prepared in a number of ways to suit the requirement of the canteen, including combi-steaming, deep frying, microwaving or oven baking.

Dedicated to foodservice and one of the biggest potato processors in the world, Aviko offers a range of chilled and frozen potato specialities made by chefs, for chefs from morning favourites such as Hash Browns and innovative Hash Brown Bites, through to Premium Fries, Mash, Roasties and much more.
