Held as part of a three day study visit organised by Heartlands, which the EUTO delegates have now deemed their “best ever” study trip, the dinner featured the best of local Cornish produce and was prepared, served and hosted by students from the Catering and Hospitality faculty at Cornwall College Camborne.
Liz Buchanan, EUTO President, said: “Our delegates have come from all over Europe to take part in this visit, which has been a particularly good one. The showcase dinner played a major role, both in the structure of the visit and in highlighting what this area has to offer, because food and drink is a huge part of tourism now. The students were brilliant, really pleasant, and gave good customer service, which is also important.”
Stephanie Lait, 19 from Penryn, and Alex Michell, 18 from Chacewater near Truro, who are both studying the Food and Beverage Service Supervision VRQ3 at Cornwall College Camborne, were part of the team of students serving the dinner guests.
Stephanie said: “I really enjoyed working at the dinner and it was a great experience. It gave me a chance to put what I’ve been learning at college into practice.”
Alex added: “It was also a great opportunity for us to show the high standard of what we for at college and we get to learn more about how real functions and events work.”
Don McKenzie, Head of Cornwall College Camborne, who was also a guest at the dinner, said: “Our students did a brilliant job, were very professional and fantastic ambassadors for the College. I’m really pleased that the event was such a success for all involved.”
