etch. by Steven Edwards to undergo refurb and extension

Award-winning Hove restaurant, etch. by Steven Edwards will reopen this September, following a complete summer refurbishment and extension.

Chef owner, Steven and his investors purchased the former beauticians next door on Church Road to realise their ambitions to expand the restaurant.

The design has been led by Masterchef: The Professionals winner Steven’s long standing friend, architect Akram Fahmi from London Design House.

Texture, locality and refinement are key elements of the re-design with a sense of discovery key to Steven’s aspirations for the new look restaurant.

The extension involves bringing both buildings together to form a two storey venue, retaining popular features from the current restaurant such as the open kitchen, private dining room and cosy booths and adding exciting new elements such as a standalone cocktail bar and temperature controlled wine room.

The restaurant interior will feature neutral and earthy tones against black metal framings. The exterior of the restaurant will be repainted in a timeless black.

The menu at etch. will change two to three times per month with ingredients rotating to ensure the restaurant operates as sustainably as possible.

Steven says, “It’s four years since I opened etch. and I’m proud and delighted with we’ve achieved so far. However, you only see a building’s weaknesses when you’ve lived there for a while and space was one of these issues. When the premises door came up for lease we didn’t hesitate. It’s given us the opportunity to create a bigger and better restaurant that offers a first-class experience from the moment our guests arrive until the moment they leave.”

Whilst the refurbishment at etch. takes place, Steven and the team will be taking over at The Pass at South Lodge in Horsham from Friday 2 July until Sunday 29 August.
