Eyck Zimmer, executive chef in Berlin, currently in between jobs, won the National Chef of the Year 2006.

As well as being the UK’s National Chef of the Year 2006, Eyck also became the Chef of the Year in Portugal 2008 - a competition with a similar format.

Eyck worked in Hong Kong after working in the Lowry Hotel from 2010 to 2014 for 4 years. The Lowry Hotel was the first 5-star hotel in Manchester and one of only 20 hotels in the UK to be part of the Leading Hotels of The World with its restaurant offering the best local and seasonal produce.

Eyck’s top five tips on how to win National Chef of the Year 2018

1 - It's all about Taste with a good pinch of finesse.

2 - Don't over complicate the flavours!

3 – Have two complete run throughs to maximise your timings and technical finesse.

4 - Have a tested structured time plan for the live cooking - it gives structure and confidence to your work and calms your nerves.

5 - Try to enjoy the moment! Food is happiness - cook your heart in the final - this is your chance to make culinary history!
