Gordon Ramsay rumoured to bring Hell's Kitchen back to UK

The Staff Canteen

There are strong rumours circulating that Gordon Ramsay is preparing to bring Hell's Kitchen back to UK tV for the first time since 2004.

How did Gordon Ramsay become a chef?

Although you wouldn’t believe it now, Gordon didn't always want to be a chef, in fact he wanted to become a professional football player. He joined the Glasgow Rangers pro club football team at 15, but a knee injury when he was 18 cut his ambitions short.

Instead the chef decided to go to North Oxfordshire Technical Culinary College to complete a course in Hotel Management, which led him to train with some of the world’s leading chefs, including Albert Roux and Marco Pierre White. In the early 1980s, he worked as a commis chef at the Wroxton House Hotel then ran the kitchen and 60-seat dining room at the Wickham Arms.

After working at Harveys for two years and ten months, he gained a taste for the variety of culinary traditions and decided he wanted to further advance his career by studying French Cuisine.

This encouraged him to get work at Le Gavroche under Albert Roux. Roux invited him to work as his number two at Hotel Diva, in Tignes, the famous ski resort in the French Alps.

From there, he moved to Paris and worked with Guy Savoy and Joël Robuchon (1945-2018), both famous Michelin-starred chefs.

Having dived into the deep end and learned with the world's best, when he returned to London in 1993, Gordon was offered the position of head chef at Pierre Koffmann’s three Michelin star Restaurant, La Tante Claire.

The TV rumour

Reports from The Sun suggest that ITV has held early talks with his team, and the chef has already trademarked the Hell's Kitchen name in the UK.

The move could mean not only a return of

the popular TV format, but also the launch of new Hell's Kitchen restaurants in the UK to coincide with the series. Gordon already operates a number of restaurants under the brand in the United States, including locations in Las Vegas, Miami and Washington D.C. which are designed to mirror the high-drama kitchen atmosphere of the show.

A TV insider told The Sun: “Fans of the show will be doubly thrilled by the prospect of the competition coming back and being able to dine in a Hell’s Kitchen restaurant over here.

“Business-savvy Gordon has watched as the popularity of Hell’s Kitchen in the US has helped bring in thousands of customers to his restaurants.

“The programme is broadcast in more than 100 countries around the world so between tourists visiting Britain and developing a whole new audience for the telly contest in the UK, it’s an incredibly smart move on his part.”

The original UK version of Hell's Kitchen first aired in 2004, hosted by Gordon himself in its debut season. Later series featured Gary Rhodes and Marco Pierre White, with the final broadcast in 2009. The programme became known for its mix of celebrity contestants, intense kitchen challenges, and Gordon's trademark fiery style.

If the reboot does go ahead, it would mark a full-circle moment for Gordon. The UK show helped establish him as a television figure before the format took off internationally, and the American version became one of his most successful franchises, running for more than 20 seasons.

Insiders suggest that a revival could hit screens as early as 2026, though no official production dates have been announced.

ITV and Gordon’s representatives have so far declined to comment on the speculation.
