'Moments like this remind us that all the hard work pays off'
L’Enclume has been named the top restaurant in the UK at this year’s La Liste Top 1000 gala in Paris, placing second in the world alongside a small group of internationally recognised restaurants.
The announcement was made last night at the annual ceremony, where La Liste revealed its global rankings based on aggregated scoring from hundreds of international guides, critics, and diner reviews.
For the Cartmel restaurant, founded by Simon Rogan, the recognition marked another milestone in a year that has seen continued praise for its farm-led cooking and long-term commitment to regenerative agriculture in the Lake District. L’Enclume currently holds three Michelin stars, a Green Star, and is widely regarded as one of the most influential destination restaurants in the UK.

In a statement shared after the event, the team reflected on the significance of the award for both the restaurant and its remote location in Cumbria.
L'Enclume said: “Last night in Paris at the La Liste Top 1000 gala, L’Enclume was named the top restaurant in the United Kingdom, and we were placed second in the world – a position shared with an incredible selection of restaurants across the globe.
“Moments like this remind us that all the hard work pays off, putting our restaurant in the north of England and the tiny village of Cartmel on
the gastronomic world map. It fills us with immense pride for our whole team, who have been working harder than ever. Thank you so much for all of your support.”
A major moment for Cartmel and Rogan’s wider group
L’Enclume’s rise to international prominence has been closely tied to Simon’s long-term approach to flavour, farming and sustainability. Much of the produce used at the restaurant is grown at Our Farm, just outside Cartmel, underpinning the menu’s tight relationship with the seasons and the Cumbrian landscape.
The recognition at La Liste reinforces the restaurant’s status among the world’s top dining destinations and highlights the ongoing impact of Simon’s work in the north of England. The group also includes Rogan & Co in Cartmel and Aulis London and Hong Kong.
What La Liste represents for UK dining
La Liste’s methodology blends guide ratings, press reviews and online feedback into a global scoring system. For UK restaurants, strong placement on the list offers international visibility at a time when the sector continues to face economic pressures, staffing shortages and rising costs.
L’Enclume’s position as number one in the UK, and joint second globally, places it alongside some of the most acclaimed kitchens in the world and signals continued confidence in British fine dining on the global stage.
