Michael Wignall, who holds two stars in the Michelin Guide UK at Gidleigh Park, is the sixth and final chef to be confirmed in the star line-up that will take part in next year’s The Staff Canteen Live event.

Michael Wignall has a plethora of awards to his name earning a first Michelin star way back in 1993 at The Burlington at The Devonshire Arms, then at The Latymer where he earned two Michelin stars before retaining two Michelin stars at Gidleigh in the Michelin Guide UK 2017.

Looking ahead to 2014, Michael said: “I’m really looking forward to supporting the live show. It’s always a pleasure to support The Staff Canteen and like-minded people. Next year’s schedule looks even better than last year’s with more interaction and a relaxed forum.”

Michael Wignall at The Latymer opened in 2007 and was quickly acknowledged as one of the best restaurants in the Surrey area. This was backed up when the 2009 Which? Good Food Guide named The Latymer as the ‘Best Restaurant Newcomer of the Year’.

It was also listed as the 25th best restaurant by the Good Food Guide in 2013 and retained its five rosettes in the AA Restaurant Guide. Michael says he sees cooking as ‘a lifestyle choice, not just a job’ and the audience at next year’s show will be able to see firsthand the complex and carefully crafted dishes that he regularly comes up with.

Away from the kitchen, Michael likes to travel the world and is also keen on extreme sports such as wakeboarding, snowboarding and downhill mountain-biking. As a teenager Michael wanted to pursue a career in BMX Pro and even picked up a sponsor but eventually took the cooking path instead, to great effect!

After a successful debut year, The Staff Canteen Live will return on 11 & 12 March 2014 as part of the Hotel and Catering Show when six professional chefs will give live demonstrations and visitors will be invited to ask questions and take part in taste testers. The event will be held at the Bournemouth International conference centre.

The six chefs are now confirmed as: Tom Aikens, Richard Davies, Dominic Chapman, Sam Moody, Luke Holder and Michael Wignall.
