Ikoyi features in The 50 - check out the full list

Ikoyi is the only UK restaurant in The 50 Best Restaurants 2026, revealed at a ceremony in Lima, Peru, on Wednesday, November 4.

The two-Michelin-starred restaurant on the Strand in London, run by chef Jeremy Chan and co-founder Iré Hassan-Odukale, placed 48th.

That is a fall of 33 places from last year, when Ikoyi climbed from 42nd to 15th and picked up the Highest Climber Award.

Ikoyi the only UK restaurant in The 50 Best Restaurants 2026

Ikoyi's spot in the top 50 means the UK keeps a presence in the main ranking, but last year's other British entry, Kol, did not make the cut.

Santiago Lastra's one-Michelin-starred Mexican restaurant in Marylebone, which ranked 49th in 2025, slipped to 70th in the extended 51 to 100 list announced last month. Brett Graham's three-Michelin-starred The Ledbury in Notting Hill returned to the rankings at 83rd, its first appearance since before the pandemic.

Ikoyi, which opened in 2017, was named One to Watch by the organisation in 2021 and won its second Michelin star in 2022. It ranked 35th in 2023 and 42nd in 2024 before last year's leap into the top 20, and earlier this year Food & Wine named it Best Global Restaurant at its 2026 Tastemakers Awards.

What is The 50?

This year's list is the first restaurant ranking published under The 50 name. In September, 50 Best, the rankings and awards brand, rebranded as The 50, bringing its restaurant, bar, hotel and vineyard lists under one identity.

The brand began in 2002 as The World's 50 Best Restaurants. Its voting academies and methodology are unchanged, with the 2026 list compiled from the votes of more than 1,100 restaurant experts, including chefs, food writers and culinary specialists.

The ceremony in Lima was the first time the awards had been held in South America.

Asador Etxebarri named the best restaurant in the world

Asador Etxebarri in Atxondo, in Spain's Basque Country, was named The World's Best Restaurant 2026, climbing one place from second last year. Bittor Arginzoniz's grill restaurant also took the title of Best Restaurant in Europe.

Last year's winner, Maido in Lima, is no longer eligible for the list, as former number ones move into the organisation's Best of the Best hall of fame.

Gaggan in Bangkok rose four places to second and was named Best Restaurant in Asia, while Rasmus Munk's Alchemist in Copenhagen climbed two places to third.

Quintonil in Mexico City dropped one place to fourth but was named Best Restaurant in Latin America.

Highest new entry and highest climber

Tuju in São Paulo, Brazil, was the highest new entry at 16th. It also received the Art of Hospitality Award.

It is one of 11 new entries, alongside restaurants including Saint Peter in Sydney (50th), which was named Best Restaurant in Oceania, and Naar in Kasauli, India (49th), winner of the Sustainable Restaurant Award.

Five restaurants returned to the list, among them Alain Ducasse's Le Louis XV in Monte Carlo (47th) and La Colombe in Cape Town (35th), which was named Best Restaurant in Africa.

The Highest Climber Award went to Kadeau in Copenhagen, which rose 33 places, the same number Ikoyi fell, from 41st to eighth.

Elsewhere, Atomix in New York (11th) was named Best Restaurant in North America and is the only US restaurant on the list, while Trèsind Studio in Dubai (28th) was named Best Restaurant in the Middle East.

Bangkok has more restaurants in the top 50 than any other city, with five: Gaggan, Sorn, Sühring, Nusara and Potong.

Among the biggest fallers, Don Julio in Buenos Aires dropped from 10th to 44th, while Sézanne in Tokyo and Table by Bruno Verjus in Paris, seventh and eighth last year, are no longer in the top 50.
