Last week Twitter announced the launch of #FoodFriday which takes place on Friday, June 12. It's an event that will bring together some of the biggest names in the culinary world from the UK, Ireland, France, Germany and Spain. foodfriday2It will give chefs, restaurants and institutions the opportunity to share recipes with each other and discover a wealth of exclusive food-related content. The event is open to anyone, anywhere and over 25 restaurants across Europe have already signed up to take part. These include OpenTable UK, Marcus Wareing, The Gilbert Scott and MEATLiquor Group. Adrian Valeriano, VP, Sales of Services at OpenTable said: “We have seen more and more of our partner restaurants embracing Twitter and all its benefits over the past few years. “It’s a phenomenal platform for bringing together like-minded individuals and I can’t think of a better way for restaurants to raise their profile among a dedicated foodie audience. We’re so excited to see all the great food-related posts that will be shared on #FoodFriday.” #FoodFriday will be split into three stages, each offering its own unique content. During the morning, restaurants and chefs will be encouraged to provide their followers with an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of their kitchen, looking at their larder, highlighting their favourite ingredients and sharing stories from inside the kitchen Mid-day will see participants share images of their favourite meals, as well as dishes from that day’s menu. They will also make recommendations for their favourite lunch spots for followers to discover. The afternoon will mark the end of the event, where restaurants and chefs will share their tips and tricks, also offering last-minute offers to their followers.twitter-on-a-mobile-phone-007 Social media as a whole has allowed restaurants, chefs and foodies from across the globe to participate and engage in an online community of food lovers. Yianni Papoutsis, owner of the MEAT chain, said: “The MEATwagon, #MEATeasy and MEATliquor were all built via Twitter. We’ve been able to develop the individual personalities of the various restaurants across the UK and in Singapore by maintaining the separate accounts for each site we have. “The interactions with our followers are invaluable for both keeping up conversations with our existing customers and also for engaging new ones.” It couldn't be easier to take part in #FoodFriday – to sign up, and for more information, please subscribe here.
