McDougalls Pizza Base Mix is a versatile dough from which you can make thin, crispy and deep pan pizza. However, in this recipe we offer suggestions of how you can turn this dough into a cost effective yet delicious starter.

Ingredients

  • • 500g McDougalls Pizza Base Mix
  • • 375g Warm water
  • • 70g Butter (melted)
  • • 2 Cloves garlic (chopped or crushed)
  • • 100g Homepride Tomato & Basil Sauce
  • To serve
  • • Freshly chopped basil

Method

1. Pre heat the oven to 200°c

2. Place the McDougalls Pizza Base Mix in a mixing bowl fitted with a dough hook. Blend in the warm water and mix on a medium speed for 5 minutes.

3. Divide the dough into 10 equal pieces and mould/roll each piece into an oval flatbread. Then cut across each piece 3 times (this will help the flavours to soak into the dough) and place on a lightly oiled tray 2cm apart.

4. Place the garlic in the melted butter and brush each piece generously, then repeat with the Homepride Tomato & Basil Sauce.

5. Bake at 200°c for approximately 10 minutes or until golden brown.

6. Remove from the oven, sprinkle with chopped basil and serve.

Hints & Tips

• For a thicker dough, allow to prove before baking

• Why not try folding ingredients into the dough, such as sundried tomato & cheese

• Try making dough balls with added Mozzarella in the centre
