The world’s best female chef Clare Smyth MBE, has confirmed she will be joining the judging panel for the UK’s Game Chef of the Year Competition.
Clare, whose newly launched restaurant Core by Clare Smyth was awarded two Michelin stars just last week, will join fellow two Michelin star Chef Andrew Fairlie and 2016 Scottish Chef of the Year Ian McAndrew in selecting the UK’s best professional ‘Game Chef’.
The chef, who catered for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s evening wedding reception, previously became the first woman to run a three star Michelin restaurant when working at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay and also won the Michelin Guide’s inaugural award for best female chef in 2017.
Organiser Craig Stevenson of Scottish fine food wholesaler Braehead Foods said, ‘I’m delighted Clare has accepted our invitation to join the panel this year. She’s had a truly outstanding career so far and it’s a privilege to have her as part of the competition.’
Clare said, ‘I am looking forward to it! I have known Craig and been using Braehead Foods for as long as I can remember. I am happy that I can support this great competition.’
The annual competition is searching for the UK’s best professional game chef and begins with entrants having to submit recipes for two feathered or furred game based dishes. The first stage of the competition is paper based judging, before 10 chefs are invited to take part in the final on Monday 28th January 2019 where they will face judges Clare, Andrew and Ian.
Sponsors Braehead Foods, Highland Game and InStock Group together provide a once in a lifetime trip to Sweden. The winner will not only have the opportunity to hunt wild boar, but will also enjoy a Michelin starred culinary experience in Stockholm.
Game Chef of the Year winner 2016, and current competitor on the Great British Menu, Lorna McNee said ‘This competition is a great place to show off your creative skills cooking with the best game.
