Competition was fierce for the title of 'Gastronomic Restaurant' at The Oxfordshire Restaurant Awards held recently at the King's Centre in Oxford. Restaurant 56 at Sudbury House Hotel in Faringdon were competing against Shaun Dickens of the Boathouse, Orwell's and The Lamb Inn. The category is for more formal restaurants seeking to build a reputation on dishes that exhibit finesse, complexity and considerable skill in execution; extensive product knowledge of staff and attentive yet unobtrusive service.
Executive Head Chef Andrew Scott and his team of chefs together with Food & Beverage Manager Sergio Martinez Rios and Restaurant Manager of Restaurant 56 Przemyslaw Szczerbaniewicz, and their small team, were delighted when Restaurant 56 was proclaimed winner of 'Gastronomic Restaurant'for the second year.
Situated in the picturesque market town of Faringdon, on the edge of the Cotswolds, Restaurant 56 opened
its doors early in 2014 when Andrew Scott joined Sudbury House Hotel as Head Chef from The Curlew in East
Sussex. The team at Restaurant 56 quickly earned a reputation for excellence not only with the delicious food and superb wines they serve but also for the service they deliver.
"Speaking on behalf of the team at Restaurant 56, we were all elated to accept the Oxfordshire Restaurant Award for the Gastronomic Restaurant," says Andrew Scott. "We put a considerable amount of effort into everything we produce at Restaurant 56. Attention to detail is paramount. To receive recognition for the second year means such a lot to us
all. My team are passionate about what they do and we are constantly striving to deliver exceptional standards in all that we do. Our Tasting Menus focus on flavour; we serve modern British dishes with a hint of nostalgia using new and
class techniques."
Food & Beverage Manager Sergio Martinez Rios adds: "The team, including Restaurant Manager of Restaurant 56 Przemyslaw Szczerbaniewicz, who serve front of house at Restaurant 56 want every guest who dines with us to have an unforgettable experience. We work closely with Andrew Scott to ensure that our range of wines, specially selected from a diverse range of countries, compliment and enhance the food we serve. Although we are a fine dining restaurant, our guests can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere both in the Garden Room before dinner and during service in the restaurant or private dining room."
Ulrike le Roux, Sudbury House's General Manager, comments: "We are thrilled to have received this award for a second year. The team are all dedicated to delivering only exceptional standards to ensure guests to our fine dining restaurant have a memorable dining experience; one they will want to come back for time and time again."
