Worshipful Company of Cooks to hold Gin & Shellfish fund-raising dinner at Cafe Spice Namaste

The Cooks Charity of the Worshipful Company of Cooks will be the sole beneficiary of a fund-raising dinner to be held on Wednesday, 20th June 2018, hosted by Cyrus and Pervin Todiwala at Café Spice Namaste in association with the Shellfish Association of Great Britain and Ian MacLeod Distillers.

The dinner will feature four courses showcasing produce supplied by members of the Shellfish Association of Great Britain, among them shellfish farmers, fishermen and fishermen’s associations as well as many of the Inshore Fisheries Conservation Authorities. Each course will be matched with gin from Ian MacLeod’s Edinburgh Gin range, distilled in Edinburgh’s West End and Leith.

The event marks the very first Indian food and gin pairing dinner to be prepared by Todiwala for charity. He will be assisted by culinary apprentices from Westminster Kingsway College, whose training has been funded by the Cooks Charity.

Admiral Peter Wilkinson CB CVO, Clerk of the Worshipful Company of Cooks, one of the oldest City livery companies with a history dating back to the 15th century, said, ‘The Cooks Livery Company continues to support young chefs starting out at the beginning of their careers by enhancing their training at Westminster Kingsway College with some unique opportunities to work with well-known chefs such as Cyrus Todiwala and Herbert Berger.

‘Cyrus is himself a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Cooks and is pleased to offer Cafe Spice Namaste once a year as a venue for a fund-raising evening as his personal contribution towards the Cooks Charity.’

Cyrus Todiwala said, ‘I’m very excited to cook a dinner that not only makes use of Britain’s magnificent shellfish but pairs them with great gins. I was surprised by how well gin goes with Indian cuisine, particularly shellfish dishes, but it truly does. And that we will be supporting the charitable work of my livery company, the Worshipful Company of Cooks, on the night makes this event all the more special to Pervin and me. We hope this will be a popular evening.’
