This year’s World Food Day, 16 October 2022, comes at a time when the world faces multiple challenges affecting food security.
In eastern Africa, millions of people are facing a severe hunger crisis as an ongoing drought causes the driest conditions seen in decades and worsens widespread food shortages.
Over 80% of people in eastern Africa rely on agriculture for their income. Yet four years of failed rains have caused severe drought in the Horn of Africa.
An estimated 100 million people are expected to face high levels of acute food insecurity in East Africa by the end of the year.
You can help change this.
Farm Africa supports farmers in eastern Africa to grow and sell enough food to support their families and adapt to climate change and this World Food Day, all donations will be doubled*!
Donate today or do some foodie fundraising with your team to make twice the impact to farmers’ food security in eastern Africa.
Farm Africa helps farmers like Sammy, who participated in Farm Africa’s Regenerative Agriculture project in Embu, Kenya, make the most of their land while strengthening access to markets, allowing them to generate a higher income from higher quality produce.
“The productivity of my crops has improved since these trainings – for example, my coffee yields are high despite the drought, thanks to mulching, which retains water. My income increased, I have been able to build myself a house and will be able to educate my children to a high level.” – Sammy.
By helping farmers adopt improved farming techniques and gain access to drought-tolerant seeds, they can become more resilient to climate extremes and better able to withstand shocks.
Agriculture has the power to change lives and with your support, we can help more farmers grow enough to feed their families and earn a decent income.
Don't miss the chance to double your donation and increase the impact of your support this World Food Day.
*The first £150,000 donated to this Appeal will be matched thanks to a generous group of Farm Africa supporters.
