FEBRUARY MARKET REPORT

High Winds have battered us in the begining of february making the day boats stay put in the port where they will be safe.
But as this has now eased off fish is plentlyful and top quality, newlyn market was buzzing this morning with tub gurnards, haddocks, pollock, turbots, ling, whole plaice, the list is endless.
Wild Bass has hit the roof with prices at the moment very expensive, and as they are to busy gorging on all the sardines making there bellys fat and full making them a little harder to catch! They spawn between march to mid-june live to a rip old age of 30 and grow up to a stonking 12kg!!
Red Tub Gurnard is underestimated as this fish is full of flavour and of a white meaty texture , also the prices on these are very reasonable making them a good gp.
Gurnards are a non-quota species so are often discarded due to low market demand. They spawn between may to june and live to a age of 21 years.
Hand line Pollock is being landed nearly everyday , these fish are fantastic quality this time of the year, also a fish that has not been given alot of credit for,as its family of the cod and haddock with its texture of white chunky fillets and suttle flavour. aslo at a good price. These amazing fish can produce more than 2 million eggs over a space of two weeks!.They spawn between february to april.
Whole Haddocks these little ones are perfect for fish and chips as we sell 500-1kg fish or 1-2kg fish , beautiful flavour and perfect sizes.Haddocks have a life span of 20 years or more!
