A GoFundMe campaign has been set up for Murray Chapman, one the hospitality industry’s most cherished personalities, by Tuesday Foster, after his diagnosis of frontal lobe dementia and Motor Neurone Disease (MND) on 24th May 2024.
Murray first noticed symptoms at the end of 2021 and, after many months of appointments with various doctors, he and his family were dealt a devastating blow earlier this year when he was finally diagnosed with frontal lobe dementia and MND. The consequence of his illness will mean that he will need specialist equipment in order to maintain a quality of life over the coming months and the GoFundMe campaign has been set up to raise £50,000 to help with this tragic situation.
Murray is very well known in hospitality for his altruïsm and 15 years ago set up A Passion to Inspire, a not-for-profit initiative, to support front and back of house students on their journey through education, by working with colleges, renowned chefs, suppliers and operators.
Tuesday has worked at First Contact Chefs, Murray’s chef recruitment business, for the past 2½ years and has always been viewed as a part of the family by Murray and his wife, Kath. Deeply saddened by Murray’s diagnosis, Tuesday was driven to do something to help and, knowing the industry would be prepared to ‘give back’ to Murray, she set up the GoFundMe campaign.
“I can’t put into words the feelings of despair I felt upon hearing the news of Murray’s diagnosis. Since then, the enormity of what this means for Murray and his family, and the challenges they will face as this cruel disease takes hold, is starting to become a reality, and one they cannot escape from, but one they must meet head on. They will need to be brave and allow their friends and industry community to help in whichever way they can. Our hope for a cure one day will keep us going but for now, looking after Murray's mental and physical health and wellbeing is paramount. Thank you for anything you can donate, it is deeply appreciated.” Tuesday Foster.
