James Winter is half of the driving force behind 33 The Homend, an intimate dining restaurant.

James and his wife Elizabeth Winter run 33 The Homend, a charming, intimate restaurant located in an 18th-century Grade II listed building in Ledbury, Herefordshire.

It offers a cosy dining experience with just six tables, accommodating up to 14 guests.

33 The Homend is popularly known for its seasonal menu which features the best seafood from Cornwall and other locally sourced ingredients.

The restaurant has earned a Michelin Star at the Michelin Guide UK and Ireland 2025 awards for its dedication to its high-quality cooking and impressive dining service.

BIOGRAPHY

He originally aspired to be a journalist but found his true passion in cooking.

Taking a year out before going to study photography at university, James went to work in a kitchen and loved it so much he has stayed in kitchens ever since.

In 2007 he opened The Butchers Arms with his wife Elizabeth and their three-year-old daughter Sophie as well as their dog (and pub mascot) Snoop.

James was the chef-patron at The Butchers Arms in Gloucestershire, where he earned a Michelin Star.

Signature dishes

The restaurant is known for several signature dishes that highlight their focus on high-quality, locally sourced ingredients and naturally delicious flavours. Some of their standout dishes include:

Fish Soup: A must-have signature dish, known for its rich and flavorful broth.

Roast Aylesbury Duck Breast: Served with sui mai dumplings, soy, chili, and ginger, showcasing a blend of classic and eclectic flavours.

Fillet of Hereford Beef: Often accompanied by braised ox cheek and pomme Anna, offering a hearty and satisfying main course.

Crème Caramel: A comforting classic dessert that is a favorite among diners.

Treacle Tart: Another popular dessert, known for its sweet and sticky goodness.

Baked Cheesecake: Served with a refreshingly tart passion-fruit sorbet lifted with a hint of fragrant basil
