RATIONAL Wins IFSA Award for Environmental Sustainability and Energy Efficiency
The world leader in hot food preparation, Rational, has been honoured with the IFSA Environmental Sustainability / Energy Efficiency Innovation in Heavy Catering Equipment award for its ground-breaking iHexagon cooking system at this year’s CATEX show in Dublin.
Organised by the Irish Foodservice Suppliers Alliance (IFSA) and sponsored by Gas Networks Ireland, the awards recognise products and services that demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainability and innovation. Categories include carbon emissions reduction, food waste minimisation, elimination of single-use plastics, and water conservation.
The iHexagon from Rational sets a new industry benchmark, delivering the shortest cooking times with outstanding food quality. By integrating and intelligently adapting microwave technology alongside steam and hot air, the iHexagon ensures efficient energy use across all rack levels in a 6-1/1 cooking system—an industry first.
“We are delighted to receive this prestigious award, which highlights our ongoing commitment to sustainability and innovation,” said Theo Bostock, iHexagon Business Development Manager of Rational UK. “The iHexagon represents a significant step forward in commercial kitchen efficiency, while maintaining exceptional cooking performance.”
Entrants for the IFSA awards were required to demonstrate how their products actively reduce environmental impact in alignment with government and climate regulations. The rigorous judging process included a preliminary assessment and a final Dragon’s Den-style pitch to an expert panel.
Winners were announced on the opening day of the CATEX trade show.
Congratulating the recipients, Antony Lynch, Commercial and Residential Connections Manager at Gas Networks Ireland, stated, “Many congratulations to the winners of the IFSA Awards 2025. These awards not only celebrate excellence but also promote the innovative and sustainable practices shaping the future of the hospitality industry. The theme of this year’s awards, ‘Environmental Sustainability and the Circular Economy,’ aligns with our goal of achieving a net-zero carbon gas network and transitioning to a cleaner energy future. We are thrilled to see these forward-thinking companies being recognised.”
