Avenue restaurant launches Manhattan-inspired menu

This autumn, Avenue St James’s, part of the D&D London restaurant group, will launch a new menu inspired by Manhattan’s vibrant dining scene. Designed by Head Chef Dominic South, the new menu unites contemporary cooking techniques and quality ingredients, to showcase the very best of new American cuisine in London’s own Mayfair.

Much like London, Manhattan’s culinary output centres on cutting edge techniques, an abundance of produce sourced both locally and internationally, and the melting pot of cultures and cuisines that make up New York’s vibrant gastronomic scene. Using this as a starting point for the new menu, Dominic has created a range of dishes that draw inspiration from across the globe. Japanese touches can be found in starters such as seared yellow fin tuna with avocado and ponzu glaze, whilst main courses of chanterelle mushroom and broad bean risotto with tarragon and shaved truffle showcase Italian influences. With a strong emphasis on seafood sourced locally to the British Isles, evident in dishes such as Cornish Sea bream with gnocchi, chervil root and lovage and native lobster salad with hearted lettuce, sheep’s ricotta and soft herbs, the menu also boasts an extensive selection of grilled meats reflective of the backbone of new American cuisine.

Diners will be able to select from dishes including 300g grain fed USDA strip or 800g grass fed dry aged bone in rib steak for two to share or The Avenue Luxe, a decadent burger featuring a succulent beef patty, seared duck liver, truffle and truffle relish. For those with a sweet tooth, a selection of desserts range from fresh and zingy vanilla and citrus cheesecake with mango sorbet to rich and warming cherry soufflé with bitter chocolate sorbet. To enjoy the full experience of Dominic’s new menu, every Friday and Saturday evening guests can opt for ‘Taste of Avenue’, a five course tasting menu spanning highlights from the restaurant’s new dishes, priced at £45 for 5 courses.

Set to be a staple of the bar menu as well as available in the main restaurant, Dominic will also be launching a range of po’boys, bringing an all-American favourite to St James’s.

With variations set to include, lobster and wholegrain mustard and crab and avocado, the po’boy is a deep fill sandwich originating from Louisiana that has been given a touch of Manhattan elegance before appearing on the menu at Avenue. To mark the launch of the po’boy menu, Avenue will be offering diners the chance to win a complimentary brunch with unlimited prosecco for two by following the restaurant on Instagram and twitter and sharing their best #pozing image.

As a key player in the growing restaurant scene of St James’s, Avenue’s new menu will transport guests to Manhattan’s dining scene serving fresh, inviting and globally-inspired cuisine.
