Bocuse d’Or UK Academy raises £33,000 to support Team UK’s Bocuse d’Or Europe ambitions

The Bocuse d’Or UK Academy dinner which took place in the Atrium restaurant of University
College Birmingham on Friday 23 February raised more than £33,000 for the UK Team. The funds will go towards supporting candidate Tom Phillips as he trains to compete in the Bocuse d’Or European heats on June 11 2018.

Team UK is one of 20 countries confirmed to take part in the European heats in Turin. Tom, 26, is the youngest British chef ever to take on the Bocuse d’Or challenge. He will be supported by commis chef Nathan Lane and mentored by coach Adam Bennett, chef director of The Cross at Kenilworth and John Williams, executive chef at The Ritz. President Brian Turner CBE will represent Team UK on the jury.

Dr Andreas Antona, chair of the Bocuse d’Or UK Academy said, “The dinner was a huge success and on behalf of the Bocuse d’Or UK Academy I’d like to pass on our thanks to Ray Linforth and his staff and students at University College Birmingham for all their efforts in making it happen. The food and service was outstanding and it was great to have so many guests there supporting our cause. The dessert provided by Denis Dramé and his team was simply fantastic.

“I also want to thank everyone who donated the product and prizes which helped us to raise such an impressive amount. We will be in touch to thank everyone personally for helping Tom and the team on the next stage of their journey.”

The Bocuse d’Or UK dinner was supported by Aubrey Allen Ltd, Berkmann Wine Cellars,
Norwegian Seafood Council, Sauce Fine Foods.

Prizes were donated by Adam’s Restaurant, Adam Handling, Belmond Le Manoir Aux Quat’ Saisons, Coworth Park Hotel, Celtic Manor Hotel, Purnell’s, Purity Brewing Co, Restaurant Story, Ridgeview Wine, Simpsons Restaurant, The Cross at Kenilworth, The Waterside Inn, The Royal Automobile Club, Water’s Restaurant.
