National Vegetarian Week 2016

National Vegetarian Week, running from 16th-22nd May, is now in its 24th year and allows vegetarians and meat-eaters to consider and explore different ingredients and recipes that may not usually be considered.

Here at Essential Cuisine we aim to ensure whatever the dish – the same great taste flourishes with each mouthful. This is why a vast majority of our products are vegetarian friendly but with absolutely no compromise on taste. Click here to check out our vegetarian recipes great for your menu and indulge in our ingredients to inspire.

In our modern day vegetarian recipes are becoming far more common to find on most menus – a lot now with their own ‘vegetarian’ section, however this was not always the case. Years back most vegetarians would know the feeling of ‘eating what you’re told’ and always consuming one of the same three or four meals being served on each restaurant menu.

But hallelujah – things have now changed! The week is upon us to celebrate all things veggie and to enjoy talking about food, traditions and those special dishes that (believe it or not!) are meat free!

The Vegetarian Society is a charity that aims to influence, inspire and support people to embrace and maintain a vegetarian lifestyle. Visit their website for more information.

Explore our vegetarian Vegetable, Mushroom, Light Vegetable and Cheese Stocks, Halal Stock range, Vegetable Mirepoix and Wild Mushroom Glaces, Béchamel Sauce and Savoury Gravy to assist in your vegetarian culinary masterpieces.

Small Contribution. Big Impact.

The Staff Canteen has always been more than a website—it’s a community, built by and for hospitality. We share the wins, the challenges, the graft, and the inspiration that keeps kitchens alive.

We believe in staying open to everyone, but creating this content takes real resources. If you’ve ever found value here—whether it’s a recipe, an interview, or a laugh when you needed it most—consider giving just £3 to keep it going.

A little from you keeps this space free for all. Let’s keep lifting the industry, together.
