Top chefs launch Valentine’s Day chocolate box auction to help young people into employment.

Michelin-starred restaurant Galvin at Windows hosted a glittering array of star chefs and chocolatiers when Chris Galvin, Chef Patron, and General Manager Fred Sirieix, welcomed some big names for the launch of a very special campaign.

From 27 January luxury chocolate boxes handcrafted by top UK chefs and chocolatiers will be sold online in a 10 day auction called “Chocs for Chance”. Fred and Chris have invited incredibly talented chefs including Raymond Blanc OBE, William Curley and Michel Roux Jr to create bespoke, one of a kind chocolate boxes, which will be delivered to the lucky winning bidders in time for Valentine’s Day. Since January until February 7, supporters have also been able to buy £5 raffle tickets for a chance of winning exclusive chocolates designed by Fred Sirieix, and other gourmet chocolate boxes.

The money raised from the chocolate auction will fund an into-work programme called Galvin’s Chance, which, since 2005, has offered disadvantaged young people the opportunity to turn their lives around through training and work placements at top restaurants and hotels in London.

Fred Sirieix explains about the programme: “Galvin’s Chance is about the industry giving a chance to young people. We believe success is contextual and so if you give people guidance, opportunities and support, they will succeed and that is why we do it. It is an amazing initiative”

Many of the participating chefs gathered in the stunning Galvin at Windows, with its breathtaking views over London, to launch the auction. Big names from the world of chocolate were there, including renowned chocolatiers Matthieu de Gottal, patissier Eric Landlard, and baker, food writer and TV personality Edd Kimber. Chefs including José Pizarro, Carla Henriques, and Herve Deville also attended (see accompanying photos and captions for full names of the attendees).

Award-winning chef and restaurateur Anna Hansen said “‘I’m delighted to be involved in a charity that does such valuable work within the industry, giving young people a chance to develop their skills and make a successful career for themselves in hospitality.”

The guests were welcomed by Chris and Fred before for a photocall with the luxurious velvet heart-shaped boxes, which have been kindly donated by Keylink.

Tom Quinn from Martell – who are the official sponsors of Chocs for Chance 2017 – also attended. Tom told us “Martell Cognac has a rich heritage of culinary and gastronomic collaborations, indeed over recent years Martell has worked alongside many of the chefs and restaurants participating in this year’s Chocs for Chance. Further to this, Martell cognac recognises the great work carried out by Galvins Chance, supporting and encouraging those embarking on a career in hospitality.”

All involved in Chocs for Chance have generously donated their incredible talents, time and energy into creating truly indulgent chocolate boxes with ingredients supplied by campaign supporter Valrhona. Many are also donating additional prizes to accompany their auction items, such as dinner for two at their restaurants, copies of their cookbooks and more.
