L J Fairburn take on the National Three Peaks Challenge for Farm Africa

Family owned egg producer, L J Fairburn & Sons Limited, are trading their poultry for peaks in July in support of Farm Africa.

A team are braving the National Three Peaks challenge, climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in just 24 hours to raise £40,000 to help farmers across eastern Africa to grow more, sell more and sell for more.

This is not the first time L J Fairburn & Sons Limited have tested themselves physically for the charity. In the past, they have raised an incredible £60,000, putting together groups to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and take part in two marathons across the Saharan Desert.

This year’s challenge looks to be one of their toughest yet, as they are aiming high and preparing to climb the tallest mountains in Scotland, Wales and England, walking 23 miles at an ascent of 10,052ft.

The money raised will help build sustainable livelihoods for rural communities across eastern Africa, supporting farming families to protect the environment and take advantage of technologies and commercial opportunities so they can grow themselves out of poverty.

Daniel Fairburn, Managing Director of L J Fairburn & Son Ltd, says: “As helping fellow farmers is a cause so close to my heart, I thought it was about time we took on another challenge to support Farm Africa – in our company’s 70th year. So, with international travel currently restricted, we’ve decided to take on the National Three Peaks. We’re hoping to raise at least £40,000 for the charity which could make a real difference to so many farming families.”

Jenni Bright, Director of External Relations at Farm Africa, says: “Fairburn's Eggs have been dedicated supporters of Farm Africa since 2013. After a year like no other, we are delighted that the team is taking on this extraordinary challenge across the UK to support farmers and food producers in eastern Africa. The vital funds raised by the Fairburn's team will enable Farm Africa to reduce poverty by helping farmers to grow more, sell more and sell for more.”
