MANEKI RAMEN OPENS IN BIRMINGHAM’S JEWELLERY QUARTER

The award-winning ‘Japanese Restaurant of The Year’ brings its bold flavours and signature dishes to the heart of Birmingham

Maneki Ramen, the popular Japanese-inspired restaurant from Worcester, has officially opened the doors to its second site in Birmingham’s vibrant Jewellery Quarter.

Since 2020, Maneki, part of the ART Hospitality group, has been serving up authentic Japanese cuisine, earning a loyal following and title of Japanese Restaurant of the Year 2023 at the Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards.

Popular dishes include Tebasaki Wings with Ginger and Furikake, Roast Duck Ramen with Sesame Bean Sprouts and Pak Choi, Katsu Curry with Sushi Rice and a choice of protein, and Sesame Miso Shoyu with Charred Sweetcorn and Nori.

The new Birmingham restaurant spans 2,000 square feet, offering 70 covers upstairs. Guests can also enjoy 30 seats in the garden, as well as food collection and delivery, with a menu that highlights Maneki’s best-loved classics alongside a few exclusive dishes developed especially for the city. An expansion downstairs is lined up for the future, with options currently being explored ranging from private dining and tasting menus to a more relaxed food market-style service.

Designed with atmosphere and warmth in mind, the new interiors blend modern design with subtle nods to Japanese culture; think dark wood panelling, cast iron detailing, and modern lighting. The space features both intimate booths and tables perfect for cosy date-nights and those looking to share the experience with friends. Guests also have the option to dine at the chef’s table for a front-row dining experience overlooking the kitchen.

A carefully curated drinks menu includes Suntory Haku Vodka, natural wines, and cocktails like the signature ‘East & West’, a blend of Gin, Yuzu, Hibiscus, Lime, and Orange, perfect for pre-dinner drinks or post-dining catch-ups.

The Birmingham opening has created 20 new jobs, with the team led by Head Chef, Pete Dovaston. Pete brings experience from his time in Tokyo, New York, and China, applying traditional Japanese techniques and seasonal British ingredients to every dish.

Ahead of Launch, Director Chef, Pete Dovaston said: “We’re thrilled to finally be opening the doors to our first Birmingham site. We’ve poured a lot of love into the space, it’s got a real warmth to it, with details that reflect both traditional Japanese design and modern city energy. I’ve always been passionate about crafting dishes that are bold, balanced and full of heart, and I can’t wait for guests in Birmingham to experience that for themselves. See you soon!”
