The Crossing Barnes relaunched with chef consultant Anthony Demetre and head chef Alessandro Carulli

Pub and restaurant operator Christian Arden (Sutherland’s Soho, The
Argyll on King’s Road) has acquired the Barnes pub formerly known as The Tree House, in early 2021
and spent six months undertaking a £450,000 refurbishment, and relaunched it as The Crossing in autumn
2021.

Located on White Hart Lane, Barnes, not far from the Thames, The Crossing is a pub dining room seating 110, with the upper level ideal for private
hire for up to 50 people.

There is also a semi-covered 60-seat garden terrace with its own bar and outdoor
kitchen.

The kitchen is overseen by consultant chef Anthony Demetre, of Wild Honey St James and
Vermuteria in Coal Drops Yard. He will work with head chef Alessandro Carulli to create a menu reflecting Anthony’s celebrated cooking style, with several signature dishes, and using the
very best British ingredients from suppliers including Daphne’s Lamb, Will the Fish in Dorset, HG
Walter, La Latteria, Rye by the Water, and Natoora.

Prices for starters range from £7-£13, main
courses £12.50-£24, and desserts £7-£8.

A set lunch menu is also available Monday-Friday,
alongside a lighter set menu in collaboration with wellness and natural health and beauty concept
store Onolla, also on White Hart Lane (both £18 for two courses).

Typical dishes on the constantly evolving à la carte menu include:

Mushroom & spring onion croquettas
Winter minestrone, Parmesan & pesto

Charcuterie board of prosciutto, finocchiona & Cobble Lane pork
Slow-cooked Italian squash, winter salad of endive, grapes & Parmesan

Gnocchi with venison ragù

•••••

Roast haunch of fallow venison, piquillo pepper purée, pommes Anna & calcot onion

Crispy duck, lentils & mixed vegetables
Dorset cod, baked leeks, grey shrimps, parsley & chips
Saffron risotto with thyme & Parmesan
Warm salad of beetroot, tahini & horseradish
Seabream ceviche, fennel, blood orange & chilli

•••••

Tiramisù - Alessandro’s grandmother’s recipe
Blood orange polenta cake with crème fraîche
Affogato - Flying Horse coffee with salted caramel ice cream

Rhubarb & sherry trifle

The wine list features 50 bins from outstanding growers, chosen by Callum Robertson at Corney &
Barrow, and including numerous fine selections, with bottles from £23 and 18 available by the glass
from £6. The Crossing also has a very good range of craft beer and cask ales.

The Crossing has been completely refurbished and the result is a warm, open interior filled with
handcrafted furniture, made by Sturt’s of Faversham. Other design details include scrubbed ash
tables, parquet flooring, specialist lighting throughout, and a zinc bar, upon which sits a traditional
hand-operated Volano Italian meat slicer for the charcuterie boards.

Speaking about the project, Christian said: “Having known Anthony since Sutherland’s days, it’s
great to be working with him, and between us we have assembled a terrific young team who are
delivering a fabulous relaxed atmosphere and wonderful, simple food. This location in Barnes is
ideal, and I am thrilled to have this opportunity.”
